Effective Sleep Apnea Treatment
Delta Sleep Center of Long Island offers progressive sleep apnea treatment in Commack, New York. We even have a dentist on site to fit you for oral appliances if you don't like CPAP masks. Sleep apnea and insomnia can contribute to diabetes, stroke, heart attacks, and cancer. Whether you stay over at the sleep lab or try a home sleep test, don't ignore sleep apnea.
Sleep Apnea & Snoring Treatment
We believe that continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the gold standard of treatment for patients with sleep apnea. Although we believe that CPAP is the best, the most proven treatment for obstructive sleep apnea, we also realize that some patients respond better to alternative treatments. For that reason, we offer a variety of proven methods, including:
- Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)
- Medication
- Oral Appliances
- Bright Light Therapy
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Provent™ Sleep Apnea Therapy
Advantages of Oral Appliances
Dr. Lown, in close partnership with Dr. Feigenbaum, Director of Dental Sleep Medicine at the Delta Sleep Center, has established one of the most comprehensive programs in oral appliance therapy (OAT) available in the New York Metropolitan Area. While most dentists should not be managing your sleep disorder, many patients with sleep apnea have sleep disorders that must be managed with OAT.
The advantage of dental appliances in treating apnea is that they are much more comfortable than a CPAP mask with a hose and compressor. Many patients who do not object to CPAP still prefer oral appliances for travel, and feel they allow the return of intimacy to their bedrooms. Delta Sleep Center of Long Island offers patients who have trouble tolerating high CPAP pressure a combination of both CPAP and oral appliances to lower the CPAP pressure.
Custom-made oral appliances have proven to be more effective than over-the-counter devices, which are not recommended as a screening tool or as a therapeutic option. Dr. Feigenbaum has been providing various custom sleep appliances to patients for more than 25 years, so you can trust his judgment when it comes to your OAT.
